after the launch

Posted in Uncategorized by fearandoptimism on February 23, 2009

no need to worry or panic, everything went amazingly well. the show looks fantastic! so it all came toghether in the end. im really pleased about how by everyone working toghether we managed to achive something bigger than anoyone could have done on their own.

the party was amazing, the bands were amazing, everyone from liverpool was amazing.

ITS OLY GOING TO BE HERE FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS MON FRI 9AM TILL 5.30PM SO CATCH IT WHILE YOU CAN!!!

not so busy day

Posted in Uncategorized by fearandoptimism on February 19, 2009

josh, mike and richard + tony came up today so lots of help. prob 80% done. doubt we will have it 100% polished for the launch but you will get the idea. i think loads more people are coming down tomorrow to install their own work so i can sit back and let it happen (fine by me!). i will be concentrating more on the party down at the stockroom looking after the bands, will be amazing!

funny thing today, i wanted tabitha’s ‘menu’ downstairs at the workstation and the guy was like ‘”yeah…er… you cant have that up…the first two words are fine but…um the second two…not im afraid…” what the fuck? censorship of ‘naughty’ words in the 21st century? the century when everynews paper tv channel is spewing out unfathomable violence, horror and degradation but then you cant have ‘wank’ and ‘blow job’ written on a sign, in what i would say is an excellent, tasteful and witty artwork. grow the fuck up workstation!

one day to go!

Posted in Uncategorized by fearandoptimism on February 19, 2009

quietly confident that by the end of today we will be 90% finished. lots to do but some of the liverpool crew will be down so shouldnt be a problem. fingers crossed!

busy day number 3.

busy day number 2

life has now become like some crazy video game. today:

got confirmation from 2nd sheffband, ammended posters, printed off new posters/flyers, read/sent emails, read the paper/breakfast, went to pick up more banana boxes (more? what for? wait and see!!!) picked up van, learned how to drive van (hours on GTA not wasted as vans in real life handle exactly like how they handle on videogames). drove to  liverpool, got lost, drove to birkinhead via birkinhead tunnel, had to pay toll, picked up art work, amazed at how much stuff there was, nearly didnt get it all in, drove back to sheffield, dropped work off at bloc, dropped van off. went and bought ‘gum tape’, went flyering, postering and pestering, had a couple of meetings, went to stockroom to put up new posters and reassure them it wasnt going to be empty on friday, unpacked all the art work, looked at it, felt like charles satchi at christmas, felt weight of responsibility on making sure the amazing work is shown at an appropriate level of amazingness, re painted plinths, relised i needed powertools, droped off all packaging material, went to some poetry night, came home, blogged.

tomorrow: get tools, transfer banana boxes from house to gallery, look round workstation/bloc try and figure out best way to show work. pick up AV equipment, try and finish plinths, assamble glass cabinets, more postering/flyering/pestering, get lazer thing to make hanging stuff straight, assemble some works, test dvds, sort out the tags. clean galleries. not that much really. hardest will be thinking of where to put stuff, i suppose thats where the curational element comes in. the workstation is such a big space. hmmmmmm just stick the stuff that needs to be plugged in near the plug sockets and then go from there?

Its gone

(josh writing)

Thought I’d beat Rob to it by saying the work is now in transit and on its way to Sheffield (all except Birgit’s tellys which didn’t fit).

Can confrim Robs earlier mail, the posters and flyers do look great. I’ll be up in Sheffield with Mike Aitken (Red Wire and this show) on Thurs to set up and by all accounts Friday should be a whopper.

almost forgot..
